In Digg Nation

I hadn’t planned on writing another Digg post but the response to the Digg Graveyard has been so incredible that I thought I should do a follow up post. I feel like Mary Queen of Scots, banished to another land, but not gone. I continue to receive updates on the Digg saga and I am not sure how I became the unofficial Queen of the Digg exiled but that seems to be the case at the moment.

So Some Updates and Clarification Points:

I have been receiving correspondence about how evil Digg is…

I do not hate Digg, in truth I enjoyed being on Digg. I also made a lot of great friends and contacts by being on Digg, so I do not consider the time or energy spent there a waste. I would have appreciated a warning before being permanently banned but hey it is their site and their rules so c’est la vie, there are other sites.

The Digg Graveyard is for ALL banned Diggers

Not everyone on that list was banned for the use of scripts, a good majority were banned under suspicion of using a bot/script/macro and if they inquired would have received an email like the one below.

Greetings from Digg.com,

Your account has been banned under suspicion of using a bot/script/macro to Digg stories, which is explicitly against the Terms of Service

(digg.com/tos) you agreed to.

Because we must be vigilant in protecting against activities that compromise the Digg community, this decision is final and irreversible.

Thank you,

-Digg Support

The list of reasons to be banned from Digg are quite lengthy just check out their TOS, and not all of those listed were kicked off for the same reasons. Zaibatsu for instance, was not banned for suspicion of script use it was a picture linked to a solicitation site that lead to his annexation. Most importantly, the email clearly states suspicion of, we are a society that believes you are innocent until proven guilty so cut some of these people a break.

Animosity Towards Digg’s Top 100

I do not hold anything against the top Digg users. Most of the top users that I know seem to be good people and have worked hard to get to where they are at. Honestly, some of those boys and girls are on Digg at all hours, every day of the week, and do not utilize any Jedi Mind Tricks that I am aware of. People have chosen to follow top diggers and digg their submissions in the hopes that an association will get them farther along on their own submissions. I didn’t see a lot of selfless behavior on Digg, everyone has an agenda of some kind.

So I understand that some of you are very upset by the Digg upheaval as evidenced by the comments on the Digg Graveyard, Tech Crunch, Digg, Twitter, Stumble, and my inbox, but there are other sites. If this link I received on Digg’s traffic decline is a true representation of their user’s sentiment then you will not have to worry about the mighty Digg for long.

I will continue to update the list with new additions that are sent to me for a bit longer, but I have moved on to begin building up GOOD Karma on some other sites (aka Reddit and Mixx) so for how long I can’t say. I Hope to see you all on these other sites…

  • Digg is a cool site. I used to enjoy using it. But, seriously the staffs are fags. I don't know if banning all these people were a good idea. They're just bringing in more domination on the front page.

I wrote a bit about this over here. Take a look and you'll get why I'm saying this: http://www.webrampage.com/is-digg-a-retard-or-a...
  • this digg stuff is still all above me but like i said before, anyone who would ban you, bridget, is worth being boycotted.
  • Lol who needs digg. Keep writing about how it sucks and you will be an online celebrity if you aren't already for your previous digg articles. Seriously though banning the people that were the biggest contributors to the site doesn't make a lot of sense to me but what do I know.

Th13rteen - I did check out your post interesting take on it, Digg is definitely leans towards being a Diggtatorship, no doubt about it.

Sarah - Like I said before...you are one of the nicest people I know, thank you! But please no boycotting for me, they rule with an iron fist over there at Digg but it's their site right.

Tim - Not sure about the celebrity status but I did have a bit of fun with my Grim Reaper post, that's for sure! ;)
  • Did th13rteen really need to use the term "fags" in his criticism of Digg? Perhaps his name reflects his age. This is supposed to be a blog about getting smart. There's nothing smart about making homophobic comments, even if they weren't meant to be homophobic. I wonder what your response would have been to him had he used the "N" word instead of "fags." It's just as offensive as far as I'm concerned.

Preston - I agree with you about derogatory titles like "fags" being offensive, but I think it reflects on the person not the topic or forum. I try not to sensor people's comments, unless it is particularly hateful and/or disturbing, and yes that is at my discretion. I am honestly glad you commented and that you addressed that comment in particular....that is how it should be. I think people learn more from the feedback of others than by just being censored. Perhaps Th13rteen didn't realize it was offensive to use that term, it is crazy what words become mainstream, and now he does. Thank you!
  • Hi Bridget, can you tell me again why digg banned you? Is it because you were digg'ing your own articles or other reason?
  • Bridget Ayers
Hey Krz - Thanks for dropping by. I was banned from digg for violation of TOS suspected script/bot use. In most cases digging your own articles just get's your articles buried not banned, unless the article is profitable in some way then that would break the TOS.
  • Very nice picture. It looks very beautiful.
    You are really a artiest.
    Thanks for the sharing.
  • This is something about Digg Grave yard, that is something different to know about as i have to see this.

    Thanks for the post.
