So it looks like Digg has gone on some kind of end of the summer cleaning spree. In the list below are 100 diggers that have been BANNED from Digg.

So many brave and valiant Diggers…it is a tragedy of unspeakable proportions to see such wasted talent.

Can we take a moment of silence for my fallen comrades please?

My digg account name is anchalsingh and my account has been suspended.
  • I am so very upset by all of this. I was only using Greasemonkey because it was recommended by a fellow digger who, by the way is not banned. Anyway, I guess I will have to be the example. LOL
  • I was banned also. joyntheir. and no warning, irrevocably. I know there were tons more. They will probaly be falling day by day as they access digg.
  • What? You got banned? Michael Wong got banned? This is madness. Did they give you a reason?
  • Complicious
    BOOOOOOO :-(
  • jak
banned as well. permanently. ouch. digg does not love me.

    screenname - jasonkeath

guess stumble, reddit, twine, and mixx will now get my link love.
  • I just wrote a post about this too. This digg ban frenzy caused me to lose half of my friends!!! I think this is absolutely and utterly ridiculous! Bring them back!!!
  • kickoff22
Yeah, I got banned yesterday. Said I was on the suspicion of using scripts. No warning, the decision was final. Yes I used the friend's checker, but didnt use anything major. I had a tool which made sure I didnt shout to anyone twice(think this is a good thing). I left hundreds of comments, some of which had 500+ diggs and was generally a good part of the community. Never spammed anything for personal gain, or abused anybody. I think I had about 70+ front pages. If they are going to ban me, then I don't want to be a part of digg anymore.
  • Hmm...
SO, everyone admits to gaming in some way, but at the same time your confused to why you got banned?
    Strange...
  • ostin

  • sh0rtstak
    Doh, typo. user: sh0rtstack
  • jak
    @ostin - nicely phrased
  • Stuart Foster
I got axed....after I removed the scripts. I'm kind of bs about that. Permaban for suspicion...thanks Digg.
  • TaliaRose is missing from your list. That account is banned as well.
  • mydigga
Yep, banned the other day. I actually sent an email to Digg support about the fact that I thought it was unfair that people were clearly using scripts to Digg articles. This was when all the commotion hit the front page about people digging 83 articles in 2minutes, etc... I was told that "due to privacy they were not permitted to discuss other users accounts". So I started using the script that day, since clearly it was OK for other users to be doing it. I was banned with no warning, irreversible... blah, blah, blah... My questions is - why are we banned, but no the "top users" whose stats ended up on the FP and started this whole mess?
  • bridget, how could anyone not love you??!! they have no taste whatsoever.
  • Orlando69
Pretty funny title to this post. If I was not banned, I would digg it, lol. I was not given any warning either and when I inquired further, digg support told me that I was not big enough to deal with so their decision was final. Oh well, off to stumble (orlando37) and mixx (orlando37) where they appreciate all the time I put into their site.
  • :) you got my name wrong lol. This is a sad thing for digg, you have 80+ listed but I would guess there have been several hundred banned. For my own part I admit I used GMscripts to digg faster, yet I cant stop thinking its not quite fair.

There are MANY users doing it that have not been banned. I never got any warning whatsoever and never spammed. Why Digg thinks its cool to pick on the people in the middle I will never know.

They have no problem with people using auto bury scripts or the mass of political bots on digg. Why now they ban so many with no chance to save the accounts makes no sense.

I guess when your being paid by a political faction to help there party. You really dont have to give a damn about the real users who spend hour after hour every day looking at you site.

I want to thank everyone for stopping by and commenting!! I have added names as they came in and corrected those I misspelled...sorry Mich D aka MichDdot. :)

Just from the comments here, Stumble Upon, Reddit, and on the Digg submission you can tell that Digg had and still has (for those friends who have not been axed) some great people on their site.

I am sure that I will see you all on the other sites though.
  • What bout msaleem?
  • To all the banned users:

Feel free to register at http://www.VOTEmotion.com

    Emote it! :)
  • I was banned on the account 'tneilen', but I've been able to create a new account named 'axsu' (http://digg.com/users/axsu).

I am not sure if I will continue to use it however, due to loss of the many friends that I had on my 'tneilen' account which have been banned or left due to the mass bannings.
  • I hate this! Some of you are friends of mine....actually all of you are friends of mine,,,sheesh! Well, I'm on stumbleupon, twitter, Plurk, Mixx, Reddit, Buzz..and @current....... so look me up I'll start using another site if you all gang up somewhere..I'll always be reland1 or relandee. bye guys...for now..
  • Bob
I'm there, I never used a script and I never broke any terms of service. I complained about the blatant TOS violations of people who should be on the list. MakiMaki, MrBabyMan, Msaleem and many others should be the ones on this list.

Digg is scum and there house of cards will fall.
  • R.I.P. All of my digg friends that got banned (about 15 of you as far as i can tell, so far)

I hope to see some new fans show up in my inbox that have familiar names. ;)
  • Also, TheRebelSell has been banned aswell.
  • SUSAN
Well? Hate to sound completely daft but I don't even KNOW what is meant by using "script"--I am virtually completely new at computers and ---I don't know a whole lot about them or these sites./ I just say what I am led to say about what I am led to say about it. Otherwise if digg doesn't like it. Throw me out. Although i will miss the diggnation friends I have. So when /how do you know they've used, abused and diffused you?
  • aislinnmarie
I was banned as well, no warning, no nothing, never was a power player but I enjoyed digg very much and I see many of my friends on the banned list as well. This has been going on for months and digg is becoming a pain in the a$$ to use.
  • SilentJay74
Yeah I am a Mixxer but I know damn near all these people. Hey guys, come on ovewr to MIxx and have some fun with us. We are going to bring this up on Social Blend this week.
  • Sorry to hear you were banned Bridget. As I write this you have 358 diggs and have not gone popular? WTF? I think the digg gods are practicing a little divine intervention....
  • Adam
I have been banned twice. Once as antifederalist and as m1garand. I know several users that have been banned. Rocket99 was banned. I can't think of the name of several others.

I have never threatened or harassed anybody. I believed I was banned once for posting a story that was on Fox News about the Israeli spy ring prior to 911 but I don't know for sure. Digg never gives you an explanation on why you are banned. I think what happens is people who disagree with your opinions complain to Digg that you are being offensive, after Digg receives so many complaints then you get banned. This is how the bury brigade works. They openly brag about banning users who they disagree with.
  • why be surprised by a company that censors questions for nancy pelosi?
  • Yea the mwong comment out of hand. You had every right to delete it. I'll keep it under control next time. Cool blog though. Everyone should just move on to Stumble. Besides, most people don't want traffic from people who for the most part leave hateful comments. It's a shame Digg is doing this breaking apart the community.
  • So sad but to all you banned digg users jump in and join www.reddit.com
    You are most welcome.....
  • Hi,

My name is Cyril van der Haegen and I am the author of the image used on top (the grim reaper vs. the white bunny). I don't mind if people actually use my image for non-profit purposes, but I ask they mention my name and/or link to my website (www.tegehel.org)

    Thanks,

    C.
  • Mattgup
I'm honored to be on the memorial. Digg is a sham. It's an effective marketing tool, and a usefull way to find cool things but it by no means is a democracy or does it have any semblance of the virtues they claim to be protecting. But then again, I knew that when I signed up so I guess I shouldn't complain.
  • Digg has dumped on allot of people, yet still allow the ones who are paid to Digg stories remain. It makes no since at all to me.
  • phnx0221
looks like zaibatsu's gone too. Digg page isn't loading. diggboss just tweeted it.
  • chrisbaker
Well done Digg. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
You all admit to scripting yet hold up your sweaty palms crying "boo hoo, we only murdered a couple of guys, why electrocute us, what about the serial killers?"
Boo hoo, you'll all fry !!
  • what to do !!
digg doesn't look at the bright side of these scripts ..
OK it makes people digg from places with no widgets . but HELLO

SOCIAL media is supposed to be easily handled place not somewhere you have to Click hundreds of links to get to the final link you need .

What i'm thinking about Right now ..

*Screw The Titans .. here comes the Midgets*
  • Mike
OliverTaco and mrbabymin (NOT MrBabyMan!) are missing too. I noticed I was getting shouts from them up until the day before yesterday. Then yesterday I clicked on their profiles and got sent to digg.com/error.
  • zaibatsu
I got banned, but I'm not going down without a fight. And it wasn't for using a script. Here's the actual e-mail: http://socialnewscentral.ning.com/profiles/blog...
  • stochasticity
These people were gaming the system. They were making it more difficult for people who weren't gaming the system to end up on the front page. I've seen many instances where these users (and a few other of the top Digg submitters) submitted the same article after someone else, but they are the ones that ended up with the most diggs.

    GOOD RIDDANCE!
  • Here's a great way to get banned (trust me) because it will LOOK like script activity, which has happened to me. Let me preface this by saying that I don't "game" the system, I just have had a philosophical disagreement with Digg since they tightened the algorithm. I believe that EVERYONE should have a voice, and be heard by the masses, where they can quickly be shouted down (buried) or championed (dugg).

Load multiple pages from new submissions and digg every one. You can EASILY digg a thousand stories a day. Digg will look at the activity and ban you for "suspected" use of a script.

As to the banning of some users and not others who HAVE used scripts, and have ADMITTED to Digg that they used scripts, this constitutes unequal application of contractual obligations (you enter a contract when you agree to the TOS, and Digg is duty bound to apply the terms of the contract to everyone in exactly the same way), which in effect invalidates the contract itself (TOS). By virtue of U.C.C., they have breached their own contract and have left themselves open to a class-action lawsuit whereupon users who have been banned for ANY reason can sue for damages for lost time invested, etc.

Regardless of whether or not there is a clause that they can, at their sole discretion, decide to ban (or not ban) a user if they violate the TOS, the courts look at past performance and the overall pattern of how they respond to violations in making a determination.

This is what happens when Jay and Kevin think that their MIT degrees make them qualified as CEOs and legal experts.
  • alex
    :(

i was user chocfever212 and also got deleted. no script though !!
  • Thomas G Henry
digg's custom support sucks in this regard. my user name was thomasghenry and one day i just didn't have an account anymore.... no explanation.. no idea why.... this was a year ago or so. i wrote them and never heard back.
  • exdigga
Thank goodness I'm not banned, but a couple of my digg friends have been. I don't know all the facts and will reserve judgment but without them it doesn't matter, digg is less interesting to me. I'm following my friends to reddit and able2know.
  • zoomtechtv
I emailed digg before they banned 86 diggers. I told digg I no longer wanted to be a member of digg.com. I was not banned I left. Here are the emails back from digg.com

  • stephernator
    finally...
  • I gave up digg awhile ago. sounds like I was missing something. Sorry to those that were banned!
  • LOL, my name is missing... :P
    really missing my name
  • Ex dugg
Isn’t there a big privacy issue if this list of names has appeared on an unaffiliated website? How were these names obtained? What other details are digg just throwing out there to anyone?
  • midnight420 and my account has been banned as well.

    Moving to MIXX
  • I see that someone said above that 500 - 600 people were banned by Digg, I believe that but I can only come up with a list of 150 Diggers have been banned over the past week.

Of these 150 Banned Diggers over half (77 to be exact) were on the Social Blade Top 1000 Users site. 5 of those 77 were in the top 100. This means that 73 people who were banned from Digg who were not on the Top 1000 list, as far as this list is concerned.

Where did the names on the list come from?? On the Social Blade site, they turned the banned user red with the strikeout through it. The rest of the list came from this site. .

Two names on the list are prominent, they are ZoomTechTV and Zaibatsu. ZTTV stated here that he resigned from Digg, Zaibatsu was banned for allegedly posting a link to a spam site. How many others on the list did not use a script or bot, yet still were banned is unknown. Surely there were some.

I received a laugh over Babblin 5's reply for he is right, but there are (or were) easier ways to go by using one screen. All it involves is using the upcoming and front pages -- then clicking away like a madman. You could easily digg 4000 posts in one day and still have time for naps, eating, showering and watching a little TV. :)
  • I have one better for you all. I chose to be banned from Digg by submitting 400 pages about the world's largest crap, (world's largest hole, world's largest bagel, world's largest pancake).

Basically I told Kevin and crew to Digg this! Here is the URL if you care to include it in the post. http://www.keywebdata.com/?p=80

They did not just delete the account, they banned me by IP address, so I can never come back and that is fine with me. My inbox is no longer overflowing with Digg spam, I do not care how many Diggs I have or worry about being banned.

I don't have to constantly answer and Digg shouts just so I can get mine Dugg in the never ending Digg race to the elusive front page.

Tell Digg Digg to Digg this and move on. It is only a matter of time before Google devalues this game and your Digg SEO manipulation gets you banned from Google too.
  • join hands to help him in getting reinstated; we can also be banned for no reason..
here is interesting conversation between me and Zaibatsu http://www.pak-times.com/2008/09/22/zaibatsu-sh...
  • A lot more than the ones they've already caught are gaming the system. 61% of the top 1000 Diggers digg blindly -- digging stories at the rate of 3/minute (not reading the story) and mostly digging only the submissions of their mutual friends. Here's proof: http://humanorbot.com
  • The problem is a lot worse than the ones they have banned. Over 60% of the Top 1000 digg blindly -- digging at the rate of more than 3 stories/minute. They also digg mostly their mutual friends, which doesn't prove manipulation but it sure shows a pattern.
  • Jorgandus P. Morganfeld
Maybe this will help things. I use digg less and less. The politicization of the front page has gotten absolutely ridiculous. There was a period of time where I could reliably come to digg to see:

    a. the top stories of the day (business, geopolitics, finance, occasional politics)
    b. a smattering of extremely interesting and perhaps otherwise hard to find 'interest' pieces
    c. a good deal of news with appeal to the core demo (teen and 20-somethings) e.g. pc games, technology news, maybe some movie news etc.

Now, every fu*&$(% thing is a left-wing circle jerk about Obama or against McCain/Palin. Hey, if that's the true user demo of digg, then more power to them, but it's driving a lot of people away. I suspect that it's not; I suspect that the rampant politicization of the site is due to a relatively small cadre of manipulators and digg networkers. Maybe these cleaning operations will help things out.

It's an ironic statement given the party that is so clearly supported on the front-pages, but digg feels less and less 'democratic' with each passing day. If I wanted liberal (or, for that matter, conservative) news, I'd go to huffingtonpost (nationalreview)

Here's hoping that some of the old spirit of digg comes back. Because otherwise, I'm about ready to walk away from this site and not look back.
  • Jorgandus P. Morganfeld
    One more point:

The individual referring to the Uniform Commercial Code in the context of digg and TOS is a clown. UCC does not in any way apply to the lega frameworks involved in the use of digg. I'm going to guess ... 2L?
  • Bob
What a great way for Digg to bury itself as folks go looking elsewhere...
  • Roger99
You can add M!hai (FameMoney) to the list.
  • Wow. What a mistake. You guys are all more than welcome to start a new social news site. Build one up from the ground... might I suggest SoLinkable? ;-)
  • Tom Gordon
You can add IconoclastStill, for advocating the execution of palestinian terrorists, and petsheep (allegedly for scripting) to the list.
  • add jordankasteler
  • Alfred
You can add Archeologist to the list of banned diggers.
  • Wow....How'd you know? Does digg put our names up on a wall of shame somewhere?

(digg...grrrrrrrr! get us addicted then whammo, cut off! *%$&_%$)
  • I got the boot too, but only after they introduced the anti-spam thingy that checks te times of ya diggs. Hmpffff.

    Rest in peace, Anti-Socials
  • Hi

I am working on a site which try to solve many of the problems with digg.com.
You can find it on http://crowdnews.eu.

The main problem with digg is the voting system.
When only top voted stories get on the front page it has
to be a subject that many can relate to,
which result in stories with a low information content.

Crowdnews solves this by using sharing instead of voting.
Every have a personal news page on which they can subscribe to other users and when those users share stories they will appear on the personal news page.

    Join me on CrowdNews
  • SeaMowse
Wow... they banned Member148! This guy hasn't been on Digg since the end of March and shouted to all his friends that he would be absent for a long time - for medical reasons. That he was ill and would be out a while. :-(
  • what was the reason for the banning?
  • SeaMowse
@Dave - good question. He hasn't been on Digg since the end of March so there's no reason to ban him.

Is it possible he asked his account to be deleted? I mean, he said he was very ill and would be gone for a while.
  • hi
    i am anti war
digg ban my account from digg
    they are war machine
    This is Freedom?
    This is Democracy?
My User From 2005-2009 : MMFT
    im sorry for humanity
  • Maybe I'm missing something, but why were all these people banned around the same time?
  • Thats crazy, did they even send a warning or an email first.
  • Ty
I don't use digg as much as I used to anymore, but I never ran into any sever spammers of digg like I have on other sites, so i'm surprised by these bannings. But it is a free service so digg can do what they want.
