Its All About the Luv….Comment Luv and Keyword Luv

November 10, 2008 by Bridget Ayers

Recently I wrote about backlinking with the comment luv plugin, and whether it was a viable tool to help a blog with page rank and traffic. To get the most out of a backlink it is important to link to the right blog with a strong search word/term as an anchor.

The comments on the post showed that a great majority support do follow and comment luv, but there are those that do not support key word linking in place of your name.

Let’s look at the difference again, most people on a do follow blog comment like so:

Normally you give your name, main url, and write your comment. These particular backlinks do not help in link-building and keyword/phrase authority.

Bridget

Great information thanks for the post

What we should be doing is using keywords or key phrases instead of our names and using specific page URLs. Then add a signature so the blog owner knows who you are.

This was very helpful thanks for the post

Based on some of the comments on the Do Follow post not everyone like’s this technique. Some feel this practice is tantamount to spam or could be abused and not worth the effort it takes to monitor so they kick these commenters to the curb.

In my own commenting habits I changed my signature url to be specific but left my name as the signature. I want the backlink but I do not want to insult anyone and in some cases building up author recognition is as important as keyword/phrase authority.

Then today, as I was deciding what to post tomorrow, Dan from Blogs About Everything left a comment on my Do Follow post.

His signature looked like this:

Dan @ Blogs About Everything´s last blog post..List of keyword luv blogs

Now if you will look closely you will see the words Keyword Luv, so now we have Do Follow, Comment Luv, and Keyword Luv.

So what is this Keyword Luv component you ask? Well it allows you to leave your name and the keywords to link to your post so if we use the example above your comment would like this:

This was very helpful thanks for the post

The Keyword Luv is a plugin that works in conjunction with Comment Luv and in my opinion keeps the comment personal but allows for the all important backlink.

For The Get Smart Blog we have added the plugin, I would like to help others with backlinking, and I believe that a one way link is more beneficial than a reciprocal link in most cases. If that is greek to you we will discuss it in one of our upcoming posts so stay tuned.

What do you think, is this a good compromise? Will it keep your comments coming in and you happy that you are getting non-spam type comments while still helping your fellow bloggers?

  • Unfortunatly many blog owners will not approve anything that contains keywords and yet they want the traffic to your site. I run comment luv and do follow on several blogs and using askimet I get rid of the comments which are not even on topic. From there it does not take long to scan the comments and get rid of those that did not contribute to the conversation in a postive way.

I think its lame that people get so uptight about other people promoting their stuff. As long as its related to the topic of the blog post I don't have a problem with people using keywords. thegetsmartblog is a master of technology information and building your business through technology for example. The soge shirts blog is random hilarity and features some of the funniest graphic t-shirts on the internet for example.

  • This is only the second time i have come across keyword love and think in the future it can only grow as am sure it encourages the casual visitor to post as in my case of probably the last 50 blogs i have read it was only the 2 keyword luv ones i added my thoughts too.

Thank you everyone I am glad you found this information useful!

Financial Wellness - Pagerank is about more than just backlinks, it is a combination of things, but you do backlinks to increase your rank. This is a good way to help your link building efforts.

Free-Gi - There are many ways to get increase Google pagerank, this is just one more method. If you are out there commenting on blogs, spending the time to support another blog, isn't nice when there is a small reciprocation? Keyword and Comment luv are just small way to help your readers out. I also like reading comments on the blogs I visit with comment luv I can see post titles and I can easily check out the interesting ones.

SG Entrepreneur - Delft is correct there is no Google penalty, you are not link stuffing.

Delft - I am having an issue with my dofollow plugin interacting with my theme. We will be moving hosting companies this weekend so the plugin will be reinstalled then.

  • Keyword Luv is definitely one of the greatest plugins ever invented for Wordpress.. I have been running it on many of my blogs for quite some time now... Many bloggers are unaware of the plugin but still offer do-follow links.

Hopefully more people will get on the band wagon so we can all start competing with the big leaguers who just buy their links...

Thanks for your contribution to the blogging community!

  • Wow, have search engines ever made people become paranoid. All of the penalty stuff turned webmasters on the guard against granting links. I hope that plugins such as these do not allow the pendalum to swing back to the days of the Casino and 18 an older sites. This would be a true tradgedy. I ask anyone who uses these plugins to moderate their blogs very well and give you a thumbs up for spending a portion of your valueable time in doing so to share a little luv with the rest of us.

Keyword Luv and CommentLuv are only of any value if the site owner removes nofollow from the comments. Otherwise, the plugins are just a con to get comments on a blog which generates more content for the blog owner but has almost next to no value for commentors ;)
  • Your blog is full of amazing tips and I learned even more today. I didn't know about the keyword use or the keyword luv tool. Keep these posts a-comin'!

  • The number of constructive comments increased, after we started to use this plugin in our blogs. Keyword Luv is a good activator for discussions in wordpress blogs.
  • Big fan of KeyWordLuv, as it really unclutters the comments. Thanks for turning this on!
  • Comment and Keyword luv have tipped the tables back in favor of the blogger again, its a win win for both the commenter and the blogger themselves. Good retort to the nofollow demon
  • Jeff
What's the point of using KeywordLuv and CommentLuv if you have nofollow on your comments? Your commenters have absolutely no benefit in linking back to their sites. The plugin's purpose is to be installed in conjunction with a DoFollow plugin.
  • I think the Comment and Keyword Luv Plugins are the "ultimate answer" for all the blogs having webmasters and normal users as visitors. So the first are happy because they get a fine link and the second don't complain about Spam! Yeah! :-)

But as I see my foremans comment I have to agree lol with nofollow this is no fun and no sense!
  • Thanks for the 'LUV'. I just heard about Keyword luv a couple of days ago. Thanks a lot for doing this for us. I hope the movement keeps growing.

    Share the LUV everybody!

By the way, I love your header image. AWESOME.

  • I just found out about Keyword Luv last week and installed it to one of my blogs to see how it works for me. I think it's a really great way to motivate Bloggers around the globe to visit other sites to read, learn comment and share their opinions, and at the same time get a helpful backlink to their chosen blog. I understand that the "LUV" is a very powerful tool that one should use with both caution and a bit of "respect". The days of reciprocal linking are over, i believe.

PS. I like your blog a lot, and subscribed to your newsletter, simply because I still have lots and lots to learn about the Internet and blogging in general. Looking forward to your updates.

  • You support it, but yet you still have no follow enabled, kind of confused.
  • Hi Bridget,
Thanks for your service. If we stick together, in the end, I feel we will be successful. I really don't think this is spam, that is, if you write a relevant comment, and put your heart into the process. It really is about contributing to the experience. I feel we can all learn from each other. Knowledge is the key, and if we use the information wisely, we can benefit greatly.

I thank you so much for the 'luv,'

I've been on your site for awhile now. I love this post and and never heard of "keyword luv"...but I LUV it.

  • I observe that comment luv & keyword luv plugin has gained much popularity. The free EXTRA traffic that comes to comment on your site makes this plugin worth its popularity! Due to more number of fresh comments it makes Google to think of your site as a very active one.I am definitely going to install this plugin in my next wordpress blog!
  • share the luv. i have commentluv and keywordluv is next on the list. although i cant help the whole backlink thing is doomed, google will one day just go comments dont ccount , sorry.

  • While I don't necessarily agree with everything you posted I do feel it is very important for commenters to leave a keyword as a name, if doing so for SEO purposes. There are many more dofollow comment plugins other than commentluv and keywordluv. There is nofollow free, TopComments, TopCommenters and Disqus as well.

As I commented in your previous post my tool searches all these platforms and makes commenting real easy. Hope you enjoy it
  • Thank you for the informative post on this SEO plugin.

  • This tool sounds like a nice idea to give back to people. I have a website and cannot use it unfortunately. But if I ever create a blog, I will for sure. It might help with getting more traffic too by the looks of your comment section.
  • I think those who comment on KeywordLuv and CommentLuv blogs "get it". They appreciate the reciprocal nature of these blogs... more comment in return for a backlink and therefore are more respectful than just "Good post" comments.

It is a very valuable feature to add to one's site, and as far as widgets go, CommentLuv was one of the easier ones that I added to my site. I'd like to find more blogs using this, too, since it's so mutually beneficial.

  • Thanks for the article - its good to read/see something like this every once in awhile. I think that using the appropriate anchor text with your link is very important - I have much luv for keyword luv!
  • I'm loving the keyword luv, though I can't help but notice every blog that has it has massive amounts of comments...surely that dilutes the power somewhat?
  • I really like the idea of comment luv since it is a way to return the web back to being a collaboratives place. I think when you first put up your site you are excited and feel like your content will take over the world then you quickly realize that the only way to keep up there in search rankings is by building relationships with other webmasters.

I say this because no matter how great your content many will not link to you in fear of what types of practices you maybe involved in on the web or they just do not want to bleed their own page rank without getting anything in return.

Excellent post. Thanks for sharing this one.
  • Thanks for sharing...it's very useful for me :D
  • We’ve been using comment luv for about 3 months now and have noticed a big jump in our daily comments. We would recommend it to anyone looking to increase traffic to their website.
  • Do you know about an equivalent plugin of this one for Drupal powered blogs?
  • keyword luv is great for bloggers. Thanks
  • well keyword luv is god.after all we want back links
  • This is an excellent way to promote blogs that allow links with out the attribute rel="nofollow". As an SEO Specialist this would be something I would love to take advantage of. One of the reasons people make their links nofollow because they want to retain their page rank. Linking out to much leaks your page rank to the recipient. Nice post, it was a good read.
  • keywordluv is the best plugin to help get great backlinks
  • I was looking for adding comment luv and keyword luv to wordpress.com. I still do not know if I can. But I found a better way of commenting. I must confess that I am still a toddler in SEO but keep looking for understanding it. Your post has helped me understand commenting. Thank you for the post.
