Get Smart Twitter Tools

Twitter, according to the Tweet counter at GigaTweet, is well passed the one-billion Tweet mark.Twitter launched in July, 2006 and is fast becoming the most popular micro-blogging platform on the web…if it isn’t all ready. I enjoy using Twitter because it is so simple, it is a 140 characters about anyone, any topic, anything. Twitter compliments my other social networking sites as well as my blog, I bring all of my sites together under this one little bird. I share useful links, stories, updates from my other sites, I chat, and I use it to find people and information.

I spend more time on Twitter now then just about anywhere else, which is wonderful but at the same time it can be a little overwhelming.Like the Soge Shirts T-shirt….

Never fear though, their are tons of smarties out there that have developed tools to simplify and organize the Twitter obsession. I could create an entire blog of just Twitter tools….actually quite a few people have (some of them are listed below) for The Get Smart Blog we are just going to occasionally post some of the ones we have used and found to be too cool not to share. If the occasional post is not enough, head on over to Alltop they have tons of Twitter sites listed that will keep you busy.

TweetGrid.com: Track a ton of keywords simultaneously
Tweetree.com: Puts replies in context, shows TwitPics, and shows where shortened URLs go

Might I suggest Twitdom. Its a database for Twitter Applications. We have over 300 applications listed already; and its growing rapidly.
  • Great list Bridget, thank you! I've been using Twitter since August 08 if I remember well and I love it. I couldn't agree more, it's a huge time hog if you're not careful hahaha.

That Twitter wordpress plugin is impressive and I will implant it right now on my blog! From my experience, square buttons, a la Digg, are much more effective, from a CTR (Click through rate) point of view.

I've been using TweetDeck for about 2 months now and I absolutely love it. It's a great platform, especially to keep track of new tweets, replies and DMs.

    Other tools I suggest are:

TwitterFox, a useful plugin to tweet from firefox. Auto-shortens long urls, allows you to tweet, reply and access DMs, all within Firefox.

twtr.us An url shortening service, with easy tracking of who click your link and many hits you've got. Simply add ? at the end of the url you've got. Example, if my link is http://twtr.us/KV , to see stats, I'd check http://twtr.us/KV?
    That simple.

By the way, you should consider adding the plugin to allow people to subscribe to comments. Very easy to add to your blog and it helps with the conversation flow ;)

  • Bridget, I very much enjoyed this article; it's going to be very helpful for me. I have a question. I have seen a couple of blogs (which I cannot find now) where it seemed that the authors were posting their tweets from the day on the blog entry, automatically. Does that ring a bell? Is there a tool for that?
