Everything You Need For a Successful Press Release

  • Sharebar

A well written and distributed press release can bring business building exposure for a company, organization, non-profit, or even an individual.

In this post you will find resources that answer the three most asked press release questions.

Why would I write a press release?

How do I write a press release?

Where do I send a press release?

For press release disbursement I have focused on web based distribution methods, however you can also circulate a press release via email. If you are going to email your press release you must first do a little research, you need to know the right person at your targeted media source, their email address, and their press release system.

Reaching the decision makers in the media involves having the right connections (work your networks – LinkedIn, Facebook, local business connections, etc.) or perseverance with a little good ole fashion luck mixed in. If your cause and/or company warrants it and you are looking for excellent local exposure it can be worth the time and effort. Many great business ideas have been catapulted into multi-million dollar businesses from a little local t.v. and/or radio exposure.

The trick to building buzz through press releases is to be creative, relevant, and dynamic…. here are few resources to get you started.

Great post! There’s been a debate going on lately on whether the press release is ‘dead’, what do you think? ;-)

Most people can’t write a press release well, which is probably why they get ignored by the media. However, it seems a trend these days is to write a press release targeted more towards the buyer of a service or product (where it used to be to a reporter) and using free press release sites to drive traffic, sales and perhaps increase SEO to their website.

If the goal is to get PR, small businesses can also send short media pitches by email instead, with no need for a press release.

thanks for this invaluable list of links.

FYI, just a couple weeks ago, I wrote a press release about a series of posts on my blog, using PRlog.com. Within 5 hours, the press had already been clicked on by 48 people. And I did see a spike in my visitor numbers, though not as big as I had hoped. Still, I felt the press release served its purpose.
